Abstract
This article explores the concepts of “beatitudes” in the Christian Scriptures, both for a Hindu and Christian audience, within the framework of the dialogue between Somaiya Vidyavihar University and Urban University. The beatitudes of Matthew 5:3-12 receive a particular attention. The article argues that the Matthean beatitudes represent a list of the basic attitudes (rather than actions) that characterize those who intend to be part of the Christian community. The main attitude is the desire to fulfil the will of God. These attitudes help the Christian to live the difficulties of the present (originated by the ardent desire for the fulfilment of the will of God), with the awareness that the divine plan will inevitably come to full realization.
