    Abstract

In The Lancet Diabetes and Endocrinology, Mark Bolland and colleagues have made a significant contribution with an extensive meta-analysis of vitamin D supplementation [1]. They conclude that ‘There is little justification to use vitamin D supplements to maintain or improve musculoskeletal health’. Whilst this is of significance to the majority of the adult population, this conclusion excludes important benefits in a subgroup of older adults.
