Abstract
Flinders University’s Research and Employability Skills Training (REST) Program is a structured and embedded program. Through a competency-based approach, it puts the students in charge of their skills development – allowing students to assess their own skills, design their appropriate training journey, and recognise, document, reflect on and demonstrate to employers the specific abilities they have developed through the course of their study. Using the Vitae Researcher Development Framework (RDF), in combination with three distinct Carer Focus areas and the newly established Doctoral Graduate Attributes, students can self-select learning and development activities that align with their career focus, setting and recording their achievements in an online candidature management system (SkillsForge).
