Camera-centred care

Research output: Contribution to specialist publicationArticle

Abstract

Best practice in residential aged care is delivered through person-centred care not camera-centred care but when it comes to responding to abuse and neglect, it seems that we’ve thrown ethics and evidence-based policy out the window. How can this be? Earlier this year, amidst ongoing media exposure, the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Saftey and prior to the Federal election, the Commonwealth Government announced it would invest $500,000 into a closed-circuit television (CCTV) trial in South Australia using an overseas company’s
surveillance products.
