Abstract

The early years of a child’s life are a significant time of growth and development. Physical health and well-being, social and emotional development, language, and communication, are key to supporting optimal development and learning trajectories in the first 1000 days. As children’s first teacher, ensuring parents and caregivers are well-supported to be highly engaged with their children is key to delivering the best start in life for every South Australian child. This report sought to identify a universal approach to supporting caregivers’ own self-care and wellbeing that can reach all South Australian caregivers. To achieve this, Flinders University’s Caring Futures Institute and Preventive Health SA partnered with Child and Family Health Service to undertake a project “Caring for Caregivers” to identify relevant and feasible evidence-informed programs to support caregiver wellbeing.
