Abstract

The centenary of the First World War has been a catalyst for battlefield tourism. The creation of new museums, memorials, statues, commemorative trails and the like has strengthened the Great War’s profile in the cultural landscape of the countries that marked its centenary. As a result, there has been a clearly identifiable “centenary effect” on battlefield tourism on some of the war’s former fronts.
