N2 - Power system strength assessment in Inverter-Based Resource (IBR) dominated power systems has recently gained close attention. The development of fast power system strength assessment methodologies is vital in power system planning and operation with IBRs. Connecting IBRs to grids is a challenge as the characteristics of IBRs are different to that of synchronous generators. To assess power system strength, various system dependent metrics have been defined in the literature. This paper presents challenges in power system strength assessment with IBRs along with case studies in the literature. In the global power industry, there is a requirement for developing a new power system strength assessment framework. Since the research on this area is growing rapidly, it is expected that many advancements will be available in near future.
