Common misconceptions about parental involvement in youth sport: Insights for coaches

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapterpeer-review

Abstract

I recently delivered a workshop to a group of youth sport coaches who worked with elite (national an state level), sub-elite (regional and representative), community (local), and school (private programs) sporting athletes. The workshop was organized in response to a collective call for advice about 'dealing' with parents involved in their sports programmes. At the beginning of the workshop, I asked the coaches to participate in an interactive live poll using SlidoTM. The poll simply asked coaches to describe their experience with parents in sport using less than five words. The activity was designed to gauge their general feelings of, dispositions toward, and perceptions about parents' involvement in organized sport.
