Abstract

Fifteen components build a supermolecule, comprised of two water molecules binding [18]crown-6 and this is itself enclosed by six saddle- shaped [Ni(tmtaa)]2 macrocycles (see picture). The supermolecule interlocks into a two-dimensional layer. An analogous, metal-free supermolecule affords a layered structure consisting of (H2TMTAA)2 dimers separated by layers of [18]crown-6.
