Abstract
The relationship between data and the arts and cultural sector has many angles, and so many vectors that it is impossible to know where to start, which is of course what makes this book crucial. The title of this volume Small Data is Beautiful, and its originating symposium, invite us to consider the aesthetic qualities of data, as well as to push back against the idea that only big data matters. I come at the question of data and the arts from two angles; their overlap contains tensions I struggle to resolve.
