Abstract

Australia is known for its cultural diversity, with a significant proportion of the population having an immigrant background (ABS, 2021 c). Similarly, New Zealand has seen a growth in cultural diversity, coinciding with higher migration over the last 5 years (Stats NZ, 2019). This cultural diversity has brought a richness to the countries, but it also presents challenges for ensuring cultural sensitivity and competence in various areas, including health care (Lin, 2022).

Cultural diversity can impact health beliefs, behaviours and the utilisation of health care services (Lin, 2022). It is important for health care providers to be aware of and understand these differences to provide culturally sensitive and effective care. Cultural diversity is an essential aspect of Australian and New Zealand society, and health care providers must strive to understand and respect the cultural values and beliefs of people in their care to ensure the best possible health outcomes
