Abstract

Royal Commission into Early Childhood Education and Care recommended “legislation for a new Universal Child Development Data System” (Recommendation 41). To support the development of this data system, Preventive Health SA, Flinders University Caring Futures Institute and the Office for the Early Childhood Development (formerly Office for the Early Years) undertook preliminary research to understand the current practice and perspectives of delivery and data processes for Child Development Checks within the South Australian Early Years System. To do this, a cross-sectional survey was conducted with individuals who deliver Child Development Checks within the South Australian Early Years System. This survey asked questions to identify who is conducting these checks in the South Australian Early Years System, what check(s) they administer, how they record and manage the information they collect, and their perceptions on centralising Child Development Check information.
