Abstract

This article examines the nature of the dermatological refer-ences occurring in Dante’s Divine Comedy, in their patho-logical and symbolic meanings, contextualizing them in the theoretical framework of the Middles Ages, biblical use of the terms, and previous classical knowledge. The focus is particu-larly laid on descriptions of leprosy and scabies.
