Abstract

While genes and gender do not dictate our destiny in isolation, it is clear that they are major determinants of our predisposition to obesity and subsequently, the metabolic syndrome. We must now learn how best to tailor community strategies that are inclusive of individual susceptibility to obesity and the metabolic syndrome and that address the precise determinants of obesity and excessive weight. For men, it seems so simple. We must, we must, reduce our waist!
