Developing an innovative response to domestic and family violence: Accommodating perpetrators as a strategy for change

This report provides an overview of the background and evaluation of the Domestic and Family Violence Perpetrator Response (DFV-PRP) and Crisis Accommodation (DFV-CAP) Pilots in South Australia. Delivered by OARS-Community Transitions (OARSCT), and led by the Office for Women and SA Housing Authority (respectively), the pilots represent a perpetrator focus - bringing together crisis accommodation with support services and behaviour change intervention – that aims to enable women and children to remain in the family home. The first section of this report considers the state and national policy context; this is followed by an introduction to ‘safe at home’ / perpetrator accommodation approaches in general. Together these provide the context for the evaluation of the pilots which involved the generation of empirical data through semi-structured interviews with service-users (perpetrators of DFV).
