Developing HDR supervisors through a compulsory, points-based, fully online training programme

Research output: Contribution to conferencePosterpeer-review

Abstract

Higher Degree by Research (HDR) supervisor development explores the complex environment in which supervision occurs. Flinders University policy and processes regarding research supervision follow national standards of good practice in supervising students. Supervisors are required to provide intellectual support, procedural guidance and broader pastoral support. In order to meet the national guidelines and provide the right service to HDR students, universities need to ensure that supervisors receive the appropriate training and support. Flinders introduced the HDR Supervisor Development Program, a formal, fully online, points-based training program for supervisors. This was made possible through the online candidature management system as well as a content management system (SkillsForge), where supervisors have full visibility and control over their training and compliance.
