Abstract

This is an educational handbook for patients with atrial fibrillation and their carers (in Norwegian language)

In Norway, we estimate that approximately 150,000 people have atrial fibrillation, but that only 100,000 know they have the condition. The risk of atrial fibrillation increases with age. As the population ages, it is expected that the number of patients with atrial fibrillation will increase sharply over the years to come.

Patients often have many more questions after a visit to their GP or cardiologist once they have been diagnosed atrial fibrillation. This includes questions about the disease and treatment, but also questions about daily life, as: “What should I do and not do now that I have received the diagnosis of atrial fibrillation? ”.

In this booklet you will find answers to such questions. The first part of the booklet contains general information on the condition of atrial fibrillation. The last part is a practical guide for you that you can apply to the medical examinations.
