Abstract

The lack of findings in the research on formal diversity management practices in the Australian hospitality industry demands exploration of the best diversity management practices. The present research explores diversity management practices in the Australian hospitality sector through a qualitative research design. Data were collected from Australian hospitality firms listed in the Australian securities exchange (ASX) and analyzed using an abductive logic. The findings show that these Australian hospitality firms have implemented eight of the nine best diversity management practices presented in the literature. Furthermore, this study identified Indigenous employment support as a unique diversity management practice Australian hotels offer to its Indigenous employees. This study provides recommendations for managers to implement diversity management practices and improve corporate communication. The study also provides future research directions to improve diversity management practices research in the Australian hospitality context.
