Abstract

Would Marmy follow someone who seems kind or bribes him with treats? Yes, he fucking would. Starved of food and affection, traumatised animals are needy and greedy. Piper watches the masked, black-costumed guy scruff a dog and pitch it high in the air. Watches it drop like a kestrel into a falconer's glove. Hears the ecstatic crowd swoon. Cape swirling, the guy splays the little body on a flattened tree stump, raises his silver knife, and sweeps it down. Blood sprays everywhere. Piper shoves past people to get to the front of the crowd.
