Abstract
Do psychiatrists have a role in the Drug and Alcohol/Addictions field?
Are we playing a part in the management of patients with substance
use disorders and of patients with problems of addictions? Many
believe that you can take the psychiatrist out of Drug and Alcohol but
you can’t take the psychiatry out of Drug and Alcohol. In Australia and
New Zealand we are again being drawn to the view that it is part of our
profession and always was. The Addictions field is changing and
developing. Our place in this ‘new’ world will be described.
