Abstract

Two Dual-band dual-mode wearable antennas for body-centric communications working in the 2.45 and 5.8 GHz Industrial, Scientific and Medical bands are presented. Through excitation of a higher-order mode resonant at 5.8 GHz, a planar inverted-F antenna (PIFA) and a planar monopole antenna operating at 2.45 GHz become dual-band and dual-mode, which diversifies their wearable application range. The two antenna designs are fabricated and experimentally validated, implying that both antennas are promising for various wearable wireless communication systems.
