Abstract

Previous observational and small single centre randomised trials have shown that fetoscopic endoluminal tracheal occlusion (FETO) has been associated with increased survival among infants with severe pulmonary hypoplasia due to isolated left-sided congenital diaphragmatic hernia. The Tracheal Occlusion to Accelerate Lung Growth (TOTAL) trial, including the Randomized Trial of Fetal Surgery for Severe Left Diaphragmatic Hernia and the Randomized Trial of Fetal Surgery for Moderate Left Diaphragmatic Hernia, was designed to test this hypothesis.
