Abstract
We describe our experience and salvage surgical management of a rare life-threatening complication in a patient with paravertebral abscess and thoracic aortic false aneurysm.
A 79-year-old male presented to emergency with anorexia, back and chest wall pain, dyspnoea and night sweats. Comorbidities were hypertension and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Physical examination was unremarkable. Laboratory tests showed elevated inflammatory response (white blood cells 24 × 109/L, C-reactive protein 280 mg/L).
