Abstract

This paper aims to investigate the teachers’ understanding on the genre curriculum through studying the English teachers’ teaching practices in classrooms. A qualitative method was used in this study which employed the instruments of observations and interiews. The study were conducted in two different senior high schools; SMA 1 Langsa and SMA 5 Langsa. The participants of this study were a class of students of grade XI and a teacher from two different schools. The findings show that the teachers’ pedagogical practices in classroom were not reflected by the genre curriculum and the teachers did not experience with SFL genre informed language teaching. The students expect that the content delivery of the subject by the teachers can be more clarified and structured. Hence, the introduction and enhancement of the genre curriculum is required for English teachers.
