Abstract

This chapter offers a concise overview of English-medium instruction (EMI) in higher education. It extensively examines recent research literature over the past five years, highlighting key issues related to EMI. It specifically emphasises studies that have significantly contributed to the conceptual and theoretical understanding of the subject. Furthermore, the chapter presents a model of EMI in higher education worldwide, the ‘World Englishes model of EMI’. This model is informed not only by earlier works in the field but also by the diverse range of insights presented throughout this volume.
