Abstract
This year marks the commencement of the next 50 years of Australian Archaeology, and we start this new half century where we left off, with some exciting papers and a very important Forum on the need for national Indigenous heritage protection legislation. Most of the papers in this issue are available as Open Access, but not all. In this Editorial we discuss some worrying and inequitable aspects of the trend towards Open Access journal publishing that are only now surfacing.
