Background: Severe thrombocytopenia in cirrhosis can preclude invasive procedures. Platelet transfusion is recommended if platelet count pre-procedure is <50,000/μL. A potential alternative to platelet transfusion is thrombopoietin-receptor (TPO) agonists.
