Abstract

Demography, distribution, damage, and optimal culling methods for feral deer in South Australia. The report includes a description of the South Australian Deer Eradication program, details of the breeding cycle and recruitment rates of 8 species of feral deer found in Australia, allometric predictions of deer life-history traits, estimated population size of feral deer in South Australia, a stochastic projection model for fallow deer, a detailed discussion of the evidence for the impacts of feral deer (ecological, health, economic), a proportional culling model, and general discussion of optimal culling approaches.
