Abstract
The 'Comish captain' has an almost legendary place in the annals of Comish mining, at home in Cornwall but also worldwide as the rapid expansion of the international mining frontier in the nineteenth century sped the Comish to a multiplicity of overseas destinations. Renowned for their practical skills, widespread experience, and deep knowledge of mining practice, Comish captains were in great demand across the globe as new mining districts were discovered and exploited.
