Abstract

Frailty is one of the most debilitating conditions affecting older adults worldwide; it heightens the risk for both disability and premature mortality, and is characterized by an increased vulnerability of physiological systems to external stressors.1 Although human physiological systems have an in-built reserve to cope with stressors, aging reduces this physiological reserve.2 Frailty is thought to manifest when multiple physiological systems fall below their coping thresholds.2
