Future proofing knowledge translation for policy and practice

Abstract

This chapter presents ten forward-looking propositions to guide the future of integrated knowledge translation in health and care systems. It argues that effectively translating knowledge into policy and practice requires embracing complexity, investing in transdisciplinary research leadership, and moving towards more inclusive, participatory approaches to knowledge generation and use. The authors call for more flexible governance structures, greater attention to issues of equity and sustainability, and a reimagining of research methods that account for real-world uncertainty and system-level interdependencies. Drawing on recent evidence, case examples, and reflections from the field, each proposition is accompanied by a proposed action to stimulate thought and dialogue. Topics include research leadership, boundary spanning, data and AI integration, equity, and the challenges of sustaining implementation.
