Abstract
This study examines the potential of Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) in promoting female inclusion in primary and secondary education, while addressing the inherent risks of amplifying gender-based biases. Our research investigates the system-level effects of Generative AI tools on teaching and learning, exploring their impact on curriculum design, instructional strategies, and student engagement in primary and secondary school digital literacies. The study employs a qualitative approach, including desk studies, interviews, and focus groups, to gather data from students and teachers in schools. Our findings reveal the complex interplay between Generative AI technologies and gender dynamics in using digital technologies. We identify key factors that influence the effectiveness of AI-enhanced learning environments in promoting female participation, including personalized learning experiences, bias-aware content generation, and the role of teachers in mediating AI interactions. This research contributes to the understanding of how Generative AI can be leveraged to create more inclusive computing education environments. We uncover both opportunities and challenges in using AI to address gender disparities, highlighting the importance of careful implementation and ongoing evaluation. The study also provides insights into the necessary skills and knowledge educators need to effectively integrate Generative AI in ways that promote gender equity.
