Abstract
A history written with passion and a commitment to the future – a future with the 208 hectare Glenthorne Farm at O’Halloran Hill preserved as open space for future generations.
Glenthorne is environmentally significant with a rich and diverse history. Kaurna tracks once passed through its valley, linking the Marion Hills with the plains to the north and the peninsula to the south. Formerly Lizard Lodge, Glenthorne is notable for its association with Major O’Halloran (1839-1879), the Australian Army’s No.9 Remount Depot (1913-1947) and CSIRO’s Glenthorne Field Station (1947-1996). Our book also explores the two decades of political dissembling between 1996 and the present, the environment and the property’s current heritage status.
