Abstract

This chapter examines global men’s health policy initiatives, with a particular focus on National Men’s Health Policy (NMHP) developments in Ireland. It deals with a review of the impetus and methodologies used for policy development and highlight the key priorities for policy action, with particular reference to Ireland and Australia. The chapter describes the lessons learned in transitioning from NMHP development to implementation in Ireland, Australia, Brazil, and Iran offer important insights for increasing the visibility of men’s health at a global health policy level. The impetus for NMHP development can also be traced to a range of other momentum factors that have increased the spotlight on men, masculinities, and men’s health. In Ireland, the NMHP documents highlight the necessity of positioning men’s health within a wider GM framework, with NMHP documents providing a blueprint for policy action on men’s health within such a framework.
