Abstract

On 24 June 1911 four men from Ikaria, travelling aboard the SS Roon, arrived in Port Adelaide. The four included the brothers John and Kostas Gronthos of Negia, Ikaria, aged thirty-five and thirty-one respectively; their brother-in-law Christos Safos, aged forty-eight; and his son Kostas, aged eighteen. They had embarked at Port Said and listed themselves as Greek farm labourers.
