Abstract

Pressure Injuries (PI) are an avoidable adverse event that subjects patients to increased morbidity and mortality, decreased quality of life and have a significant financial cost to the health care system. This study aimed to compare the rate of hospital acquired PI in unilateral amputees using a standardised heel offloading device, the pressure relieving ankle foot orthosis (PRAFO) to various historical pressure offloading practices, which ranged from no intervention to an alternating air mattress and/or Heelift Suspension Boot or PRAFO.
