Abstract

Reflecting the evolving understanding of breathlessness and its impacts, the International Classification of Disease (ICD) version 11has recently listed “breathlessness” (the patients’ descriptor of their subjective symptom) as a synonym for “dyspnoea” for the first time[1]. ICD-11 also now incorporates wording for three durations of breathlessness: “acute”(hours to 3 weeks), “subacute” (3–8 weeks) and “chronic” (>8 weeks).
