    Abstract

The Flinders University lake is the centrepiece of the campus layout, providing a symbolic link between the northern and southern sections of the university. The lake currently uses 13,000 kilolitres of tap water per year (averaged over the period of continuous usage records), which equates to approximately $14,600 per year of expenditure.

This study aims to investigate the lake’s water balance, and to quantify the hydrological behaviour of the lake through the development of a numerical model and to thereby assist the preliminary design of engineered strategies to improve sustainable management practices by reducing lake reliance on tap water input.
