Abstract

Rehabilitation is the process by which we aim to optimize the outcomes for people with stroke.1 But what is an optimal rehabilitation care process and how do we achieve consistent quality of care within a state, a region, a country or across the globe? Acute care advances embedded within organized and accredited stroke units have fundamentally changed stroke care for the better. In contrast, postacute care models have remained relatively stagnant, or even regressed. In this Advances in Stroke, we consider steps to optimize rehabilitation access and care quality.
