Abstract

The use of heparinized solutions to dissolve or fragment stones retained in the biliary tree after surgery is still controversial. In this in vitro study heparin in concentrations of up to 100 000 u/l did not dissolve or fragment the stones examined, nor did it enhance the dissolution properties of the bile salt, sodium cholate.
