Abstract

The Indian-European Research Networking Programme in the Social Sciences brought together a team of academics from psychology, education and screen production, from 10 universities in 6 countries, to work on an interdisciplinary research project in India exploring understanding of bullying, cyber bullying, pupil safety and well-being in an Indian context. This project enabled a unique opportunity to create a series of documentary interviews with education professionals working in schools in the Punjab and Tamil Nadu, India. Excerpts from 4 major interviews, out of 18 filmed in 2014 during a number of meetings and school visits, are presented. Interviewees outline their perceptions of bullying relative to their educational contexts, describing the influence that diverse traditions, social norms, beliefs, religion, gender, locations and definitions, occurring between cultural groups within India, might have on how bullying behaviours are viewed and managed within school contexts.
