Abstract

Associate Professor Lilian Kow was born, and spent her early childhood years, in Malacca, Malaysia, the youngest of five children. Her father worked as superintendent at a Shell Refinery in Malacca and later in his career owned a rubber plantation, while her mother was a stay-at-home mum. After completing her early education at the Malacca Girls School, Associate Professor Kow’s family migrated to Adelaide, South Australia, where she attended the Daws Road High School (Pasadena). The unwavering support of her parents to ensure a good education for their children saw Associate Professor Kow complete her medical degree from Flinders University. She went on to pursue surgical training in South Australia, as well as complete a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Neurophysiology at Flinders University under the supervision of Professors Marcello Costa and James Toouli...
