Abstract

In July 2017, Austen scholars from around Australia and beyond gathered in Adelaide, South Australia, in person and virtually, to commemorate the bicentenary of the author’s death. Our conference was titled ‘Immortal Austen’ and the themes of mortality and immortality drew a variety of enlightening and sometimes surprising approaches from our keynotes, presenters and special guest lecturers. This issue of Romanticism is the third and last of the publications arising directly from this conference and its associated events: because of the range of interdisciplinary and innovative approaches, we found it best to diversify.
