Abstract

Isla Williams passed away peacefully at the Epworth Hospital, Melbourne, on Thursday October 10, 2024, just 2 months short of her 90th birthday. Isla was an Australian neurologist, neuro-ophthalmologist, and a woman of substance. She was an astute clinician whose colleagues, patients, and students held in very high regard. Over the years, she held numerous clinical positions in Melbourne, including appointments to the Alfred Hospital, Prince Henry's Hospital, Monash Medical Centre, and St. Vincent's Hospital, where she had neuro-ophthalmology clinics, many of which she initiated. She was the senior neuro-ophthalmologist at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital between 1972 and 2006 and was given honorary academic positions with both Monash University and the University of Melbourne.
