    Abstract

This report broadly deals with two major aspect of the Committee's work. It firstly addresses the nature Islamic law and its inter-action with International law. Secondly, the report engages with certain aspects of Islamic family laws. The report commences with an examination of the sources of Islamic law and aims to draw a relationship with general international law. This theme is followed by a discussion of the more focused discussion of the Islamic perspective on the concept of rule of law. The next section advances the position of Jihad within Islamic legal jurisprudence. Jihad, has been (and continues to remain) a controversial aspect of the Siyar, although this committee views Jihad as a primarily pacific exercise based on non-violence. Islamic law also has a considerable relationship with sustainable development and indeed Islamic law remains to be consistently invoked by the International Court of Justice-aspects which are also covered by this report. The final section of the report, present some preliminary observations on aspects of Islamic family law, primarily dealing with marriage and divorces. With the approval of the 73 conference, the Committee aims to continue its work on the aforementioned long term project, and at the same time further develop its views on various aspects of International law as a short term strategy.
