Abstract
A summary of my completed project to catalogue all the Austen Family Music Books.
Eighteen precious albums ofsheet music survive from the extended Austen family around Jane Austen’s time, dating from the 1750s to the 1820s. Seven of these volumes certainly belonged to her: two are all printed music, three are mixed print and manuscript, mainly in her handwriting, and another two – the most treasured of all – are completely her own manuscript, dating from her teens and early twenties. Other volumes belonged to women in her extended family: sisters-in-law, cousins, and nieces.
