Abstract

As Jünke notes in the preface to the English edition, despite the vastness of Leo Kofler’s output and the affinities between him and other prominent German Marxist figures, Kofler has been relatively ignored in the English speaking world. Over six chapters, Jünke presents Kofler’s philosophy of praxis as embedded in twentieth century German Marxist debates, while providing viewpoints which set Kofler outside of the usual Marxist schools of thought which coalesced in the last century. The translation of Jünke’s monograph and the six essays by Kofler included in the volume attempt to make an intervention in order to highlight the contemporary relevance of Kofler’s work to English speaking scholarship, and Marxist scholarship more widely.
