Abstract
The comments presented in this submission are aimed at assisting in the
development of a CDEP scheme that is congruent with the Northern
Territory Government’s (2007) Generational Plan of Action, which is
aimed at closing the gap of Indigenous disadvantage. Our
recommendations are also aimed at supporting Federal Labor’s
commitment to close the 17 year life expectancy gap between Indigenous
and non-Indigenous Australians within the next generation.
A revitalized CDEP could be a powerful instrument in furthering Federal
Labor’s focus on Indigenous economic development and its commitment
to lifting levels of education and training, especially literacy and
numeracy, and to better health outcomes for Indigenous Australians.
