Abstract

We read with interest the important work by Grosse and Thomas that found heterogeneity in Basic Physician Trainee selection practices across Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand.1 Directors of Physician Education espoused varying opinions regarding the utility of selection tools and desirable candidate attributes.1 The study found a heavy reliance on interviews, subjective assessments, favouring of internal applicants and opaqueness regarding criteria and objectives.1
