    Abstract

The Australian Labor Party, now less than ten years from its centenary, is the country's oldest political party. For all of Australia's history as a federal nation, the ALP has been a major participant in the political system - contesting elections, forming governments and oppositions, providing leaders, advocating and implementing policies.
